The endocrine system is a complex network of ductless glands that secrete hormones into the circulatory system to regulate homeostasis—the equilibrium of the body’s internal environment. The glands of the endocrine system include the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland, the pineal gland, the thyroid gland, the parathyroid glands, the adrenal glands, the pancreas, and the gonads.

This learning program begins with an overview of hormone characteristics. You will learn about important features of hormone signaling, hormone regulation, and hormone receptors. You will then learn about some of the physiological effects of many hormones. And lastly, you will learn about organs and tissues outside of the endocrine system that also synthesize and release hormones.
Upon completion of this learning program, you will be able to::

Explain the general features of hormone signaling.
